Questions

Questions about ZIP code lookups

Can I check my water quality by ZIP code?

Yes. Type your 5-digit ZIP code above to see the public water systems on record for that area and what their records show. If a ZIP isn’t in the directory yet, Find my water can still look it up by city or by the water system ID (PWSID) on your bill.

Why can one ZIP code show more than one water system?

A ZIP code is a postal area, not a water service area. One ZIP can be served by two or more utilities, so the ZIP page lists each one. Your water bill names your supplier.

Where does the data come from?

From public records, mainly EPA drinking water data and utility reports. Every result links to its record on the water system’s page, which names the source.

Is a ZIP code lookup the same as testing my tap?

No. Utility records describe the water a system delivers, not the water at your faucet. Lead from home plumbing, for example, only shows up in a test of your own tap.
